Thanks for stopping by today to talk about this twist on traditional read pudding ,because why would you make bread puddingwith just bread when there are donuts available? As Marie Antoinrtte is said to have exclamed” Let them eat cake *. Just fine with me!
In my continuing effort not to let food go to waste , I had a half dozen cake donuts that were more stale then a dip in coffee would cure.Why not elevate the donuts with an infused custard, and have a great wake and bake entree or a dessert for a later day. I made thistle first time with staledonuts, then no clearance for weeks had to buy non discounted donuts and leave them out to get stalewhen I remade the pudding for the pictures.
I have used both full size donuts as well as mini donuts. I have used plain cake , cinnamon and sugar, toasted coconut. And powder sugar. Each will give you a slightly different flavorin the finished pudding. You can also experiment with different spices (think cardamom and mace) or dried fruits /nurs you add (like cherries or dates or pecans or peanuts), sprinkle on some raw sugar before baking of serve with whip cream (see receipt for infused cream) or ice cream.
Fun fact # 29 : Most of the world spells ” donuts”in the US . The rest of the world use the longer form doughnut the shortened form of the word was populari?ed by the fast food chain Dunkin Donuts in the 1950’s, whi h has now dropped the donuts from their name. So.uch for innovention.
Banana Donut bread Pudding Recipe
2 packages (approximately 10 Oz each) stale cake donuts
1 very ripe banana
1/2÷ c of rasin3/4 c infused cream
3/4infused raisin
1/2c milk
2 eggs
2 t vanilla
1 t cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Optional garnish simple powder sugar / lemon glaze sprinkles fresh fruit, Greek yogurt. whipped cream or ice cream
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter 8×8 cass3role and set aside.In large bowl. .ash banana. Add cream and sugar, milk and salt mix well
Crumble stale donuts into cream and egg .mixture in the large bowl Miix slightly.You want some donuts pieces above th e level of the level of the liquid in the bowl. Add .mixture to the prepared Casserole.
Allow to sit a too. temperature for 20 minutes for custard to absorb into the doughnuts.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until enter is set and golden brown. Cool slightly before garnishing (if desired) and serve.
As with all cannabis infused food start with small serving till you learn tollerence. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
